BLOOMFIELD, NJ: The women's basketball team snapped their three-game losing streak in a big way Saturday afternoon, using a suffocating defense to top the Chestnut Hill College Griffins 82-62 at the Deacons' Den.
The Lady Deacons' third CACC victory of the season was one of their most complete victories of the 09'-10' campaign. Led by junior center
Tiffany McDaniel's 18 points and nine rebounds, Bloomfield was able to dominate the paint at both ends of the floor, forcing the Griffins to shoot just 39% from the floor through 40 minutes of play.
Bloomfield was able to control the pace of play in the early going, forcing turnovers by using a full-court press for much of the game's first stanza. The Lady Deacons were about to connect on nearly 43% of their field goal attempts in the frame, the result a commanding 41-23 advantage at the break.
In the second half it was more of the same, as the stifling press defense of the Lady Deacons kept the Griffins at bay for much of the half and forced 38 total turnovers. Coach Wimberly's squad was able to maintain their cushion despite the Griffins connecting on three of their four three-point attempts in the half, with Bloomfield's dominant post play the difference in preserving the 20-point victory.
Dre'Shonda Williams was solid again for the Lady Deacons, posting 13 points in the victory.
Nichole Hawkins was the second half of the dominant post play displayed by Bloomfield, posting nine points and seven rebounds in the win.
The team returns to action January 19 with a home game against CACC rival Felician College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
