GARDEN CITY, NY: The men's basketball team opened their two-game stint at Adelphi University with an 81-66 loss Tuesday, falling to the Adelphi Panthers to drop to 7-3 on the season.
Junior guard
Gage Daye did his best to keep the Deacons in the game, going for a game-high 35 points including an outstanding 15-19 from the free-throw line. The sharpshooter was a force on the defensive end of the floor as well, tallying a team-high five steals.
But #10's standout night wasn't enough to top a balanced scoring attack from Adelphi, who held a slim 36-34 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play. The Panthers would come out on fire in the second half, though, shooting 55% from the floor and putting the game away in the second frame with three players scoring in double figures. BC struggled to keep pace finishing 3-13 from beyond the arc in the contest, and the Panthers pulled away to hand the Deacons their third loss of the season.
Sophomore
Matt Wafula posted a solid performance down low for the Deacons, registering seven points and nine boards in the loss, while
Wilson Pilarte tallied nine points and a pair of steals.
The Deacons return to the hardwood Wednesday for their final contest of 2009 when they take on the University of New Haven. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
