SPRINGFIELD, MASS - The men's basketball team dropped to 2-2 on the young season Saturday afternoon, as they cam up on the short end of a 75-65 decision in a non-conference road contest against American International College.
The Deacons were able to jump out in front in the early going, orchestrating a 6-0 run to get things started. But the Yellow Jackets would quickly rebound, overtaking Coach Holmes' group and using a 41% shooting performance from beyond the arch to keep the Deacons at bay in the opening 20 minutes. Bloomfield was able to close the gap in the final minutes of the frame, drawing to within three at 32-29 heading into the break.
The visiting team would take the lead in the early stages of the second half, as the Deacons overtook AIC to build a 39-36 advantage four minutes into the period. But the lead would be short-lived as the Yellow Jackets followed with a pair of buckets to regain a 40-39 advantage. Bloomfield would draw even at 44 minutes later, but would not overtake their counterparts on this afternoon. AIC outscored the Deacons 31-20 over the final over the final 10:21 of the contest, taking the 11-point decision and sending Bloomfield home with a .500 record through the season's first four games.
