BRONXVILLE, NY
(December 11, 2010) - The men's basketball team moved to 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in CACC play afternoon, as they withstood a late charge from North Division foe Concordia College to pick up an 86-79 road victory.
The high-powered Deacons offense came out firing in the opening half, quickly mounting a 20-7 run to open the contest and increasing their cushion to as many as 20 points with seven minutes left in the period. The Clippers would climb to within 16 points at the break, trailing Coach Holmes' squad 51-35 at intermission.
It would prove to be a different story in the second half, as Concordia rallied to cut the Deacons' lead to single digits with a 14-6 run to open the frame. The home team continued to scratch and claw their way back into the contest, moving to within three and trailing 70-67 with 5:42 to play. But Bloomfield would hold off the hard-charging Clippers, engineering an 8-1 to move the lead back to double digits and thwarting Concordia's hopes of a dramatic comeback, eventually holding on for the hard-fought seven-point victory.
Senior guard
Gage Daye posted his second-straight outstanding performance, notching a game-high 29 points to go with 12 rebounds, and five assists.
Ryan Rodrigues continued his streak of hot shooting as well in the victory, totaling 19 points and connecting on four of his nine three-point attempts.
Matt Wafula totaled 10 points and six rebounds to key the low-post scoring in the win.
The team returns to action Sunday, December 19 with a home non-conference contest against New Haven University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
