Daye passses 2,000 career points with 32 as Deacons top Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, PA (January 8, 2010) - The men's basketball team won their fifth-consecutive conference game to stay unbeaten in CACC play Saturday afternoon, as they rolled to an 84-71 victory over South Division foe Chestnut Hill College.

The Deacons picked up their eighth victory of the season in decisive fashion, storming out of the gates and engineering a 14-4 run to open the action.  The Griffins could not get back into the game against their visiting counterparts, as Bloomfield was able to limit Chestnut Hill to just 24 first-half points and build a comfortable 38-24 advantage heading into the break.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Deacons were able to open up the lead to as many as 20 points in the final 20 minutes of play.  The Griffins simply could not keep pace with the Deacons' vaunted attack, the North Division's top squad cruising to the thirteen-point road victory and moving to a perfect 5-0 in CACC play.

While any conference victory is an important one, the day was marked by a landmark accomplishment in the history of Bloomfield College Men's Basketball.  Senior All-American guard Gage Daye netted a game-high 32 points in the victory, surpassing 2,000 career points with seven minutes remaining in the first half.  It marks just the second time in school history a player has reached the lofty plateau, putting Daye behind only former Deacon guard Andre Dabney on the school's all-time scoring list.

"Two thousand career points is an incredible accomplishment, and we are very proud of Gage for surpassing this milestone," Bloomfield head coach Gerald Holmes said.  "Over his four years here, we've had the opportunity to watch him grow as a player and as a person, and he's responded to every challenge we've issued him.  He is a special player, and this event just makes that even more clear."

Matt Wafula was a force in the frontcourt in the victory, notching 16 points and eight rebounds to help key the victory.  Ryan Rodrigues was the third Deacons player in double-figures, pitching in 10 points in the win.

The Deacons return to action Tuesday, January 11 with a road matchup against CACC North Division rival Nyack College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
