Chowan edges Lady Deacons 54-52

BOX SCORE

MURFREESBORO, N.C. (December 18, 2011) - Bloomfield's women's basketball team fell to 3-6 overall Sunday afternoon, as they dropped a 54-52 road decision to non-conference opponent Chowan University.

After falling behind in the contest's early going, the Lady Deacons engineered an 12-4 run to close the contest's opening half, pulling to within a single point and trailing Chowan 28-27 at the intermission.

Bloomfield was able to maintain the momentum at the outset of the second half, orchestrating an 8-2 spurt to take a 35-30 lead with 17:22 to play.  But it would prove to be a lead the Lady Deacons could not hold, as Chowan was able to regain the lead and build a 52-45 advantage late in the second frame.  Bloomfield would counter by scoring seven of the contest's final nine points, moving to within a single bucket at 54-52 with 40 seconds to play.  But a desperation three as time expired went by the boards, handing the Lady Deacons their second consecutive loss with a tough two-point defeat.

Lauren Deverin (Sewaren, N.J.) led the Lady Deacons with her second consecutive double-double, notching 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Emily Hall (Montclair, N.J.) totaled 14 points in the loss.

Bloomfield returns to action Friday, December 30 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent The College of Saint Rose.  Tip-off for the contest is set for 6:00 PM.
