BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (December 3, 2011) - Bloomfield's men's basketball team fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in CACC play Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 73-70 road decision to nearby CACC North Division rival Caldwell College.
The Deacons struggled on the offensive end of the floor in the opening half, shooting just 24% from the floor over the first 20 minutes of play. Caldwell was able to take advantage of Bloomfield's uncharacteristic start, mounting a 39-24 advantage heading into halftime.
Bloomfield would rebound in the second period, scoring 46 points over the final 20 minutes of action and furiously clawing their way back into the contest. But the host Cougars would hold off the late-game surge, hanging on to lead wire-to-wire in the second half and preserve the hard-fought three-point victory.
Three players reached double-figures in scoring for the Deacons in the loss, with sophomore guard
Terry Hicks (Neptune, N.J.) leading the effort with 19 points and four rebounds. Senior point guard
Ahmad Harris (Neptune, N.J.) totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six assists, pitching in on defense with a pair of steals. Rookie
Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) continued his streak of solid play off the bench, notching a career-high 17 points and five rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, December 6 with a home contest against CACC North Division rival Dominican College. Tip-off for the contest is set for 8:00 PM.
