Holy Family hands Lady Deacons first CACC loss

PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 5, 2011) - The women's basketball team saw their nine-game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, as they lost a 69-51 road decision to CACC South Division-leading Holy Family University.  The setback moved Bloomfield to 13-6 overall, and 11-1 in CACC play.

Billed as a clash of the CACC's top women's squads, the contest lived up to the billing in the early going, with the visiting Lady Deacons holding a slim four-point advantage in the early going.  Holy Family would weather the early output, knotting the score at 14 midway through the period.  The Bloomfield offense sputtered in the opening frame, shooting 34% from the floor in the first half.  The Tigers would capitalize on the uncharacteristic performance, orchestrating a 23-7 run to close the half and put the Lady Deacons behind 37-23 heading into the break.

Bloomfield solved the Holy Family offensive attack in the second half, yielding just a 37% shooting performance over the final 20 minutes of action.  But the deficit proved too much to overcome, the Tigers preserving the double-digit advantage and earning the victory in the highly-anticipated matchup.

Dre'Shonda Williams led all Bloomfield scorers, totaling nine points in the setback.  Vanessa Lamison netted eight points, while Ashley Keels notched seven points in the loss.  Tiffany McDaniel was solid in the frontcourt, posting six points, six rebounds and three blocks.

The team returns to action Monday, February 7 with a home contest against CACC North Division foe Nyack College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
