Second-half surge lifts Lady Deacons over Concordia

BOX SCORE

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (January 12, 2012) -
Bloomfield outscored CACC North Division rival Concordia College 41-20 over the final 20 minutes of play to earn their seventh victory of the season Thursday evening, as the women's basketball team moved to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play by picking up a 71-51 home victory over the Clippers.

The visiting Clippers were able to grab the advantage midway through the opening half, engineering a 14-0 run to take a 25-18 lead with 4:44 remaining in the period.  Bloomfield would narrow the margin to a single point, with Concordia regaining the lead on a bucket by Sade Jones as time expired to take a slim 31-30 cushion into the intermission.

It would prove to be a tale of two halves, however, as the Lady Deacons executed a dominant second-half in which they held Concordia to just 25% shooting from the field and forced the Clippers into 17 turnovers.  Bloomfield took the lead on the first basket of the period and never looked back, outscoring their divisional rivals by 21 points in the game's final stanza to take the lopsided victory and move to two games over .500 in conference play.

Senior point guard Emily Hall (Montclair, N.J.) continued her scorching streak of play with a game-high 22 points in the victory, while Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, Md.) notched a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.  Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J.) came off the bench to match Lamison with 12 points, adding four assists and four steals in the triumph.  Sophomore forward Lauren Deverin (Sewaren, N.J.) totaled nine points and a career-high six blocks in a solid frontcourt effort.

Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, January 18 when they welcome CACC North Division rival Caldwell College for a late-season conference matchup.  Tip-off for the contest is set for 6:00 PM.
