Lady Deacons fall against Holy Family

BOX SCORE

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (January 28, 2012) -
Bloomfield's women's basketball team fell to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 61-47 home decision to CACC South Division rival Holy Family University.

Facing the South Divison's top squad, the Lady Deacons were able to keep pace with the Tigers for much of the opening half.  But with the score tied at 11, Holy family engineered a 7-0 run to take an 18-11 lead with 3:55 remaining in the frame.  The lead would remain intact heading into the intermission, with the Tigers holding a 25-16 advantage at the break.

Bloomfield would execute a spurt of their own in the early stages of the second half, clawing their way back into the action and cutting the deficit to just four points at 38-34 with 11:38 to play.  But Holy would withstand the surge, running the lead back to double-digits and preserving the advantage over the final 11 minutes of action.  The setback drops the Lady Deacons to the .500 mark in CACC play on the season, and is just the second loss at home for the club in the 2011-2012 season.

Sophomore guard Ivettlis Castro (Carteret, N.J.) led the Bloomfield attack with 14 points in reserve, while Vanessa Lamison (Laurel, Md.) notched 11 points and four steals.  Dre'Shonda Williams (Piscataway, N.J.) rounded out the double-figure scorers, going for 10 points off the bench in the loss.

Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, February 1 when they travel to take on CACC North Division rival Nyack College.  Tip-off for the contest is set for 6:00 PM.
