Lady Deacons edge Chestnut Hill, move to 2-0 in CACC play

BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 1, 2012) -
Rookie forward Iman Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Bloomfield College women's basketball team with 15 points off the bench Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Deacons came from behind and improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a 47-42 road victory over CACC South Division club Chestnut Hill College.

Bloomfield fell into an early hole in the contest, as Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the early stages of the opening half.  The Lady Deacons would weather the early storm, orchestrating a 16-2 run of their own to overtake the Griffins and grab a 19-18 lead with 2:33 to play in the period.  The home team would close the seesaw frame by scoring five of the final six points, though, taking a 24-19 lead into the intermission and putting the Lady Deacons 20 minutes away from their first conference loss of the young season.

The Griffins would push the lead to as many as nine points in the second half, putting Bloomfield down 31-22 with 14:36 to play.  But the Lady Deacons would once again counter with a run of their own, engineering a 12-2 spurt to regain a 34-33 lead with 10:32 remaining.  The visitors would orchestrate the defining run of the contest with just over four minutes remaining, when, trailing 38-37, Bloomfield ripped off a 9-2 run to put the game out of reach and complete the comeback effort.  Chestnut Hill proved unable to counter in the waning minutes, giving the Lady Deacons a hard-fought road victory in come-from-behind fashion to stay perfect in conference play and move to two games over .500 on the year.

Williams finished the afternoon 6-10 from the field in 34 minutes, posting her second consecutive double-digit scoring performance in a standout week for the freshman forward.  Rookies Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) and Nahja Carter (Neptune, N.J.) each notched 8 points in the victory, with Wilson adding nine rebounds, two assists and a game-high six steals in a standout all-around effort.

Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, December 4, when they welcome CACC North Division rival Felician College for a home conference contest.  Tip-off for the matchup is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
