Deacons edge Wilmington in extra time for first CACC victory

BOX SCORE

WILMINGTON, De. (September 15, 2012) -
Senior Kemar Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) netted his third goal of the season in game-winning fashion Saturday afternoon, as he broke a scoreless tie with the decisive strike in double overtime to lift the Bloomfield College men's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory over CACC rival Wilmington University.  With the win, the Deacons improve to 1-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall on the 2012 season.

The evenly-matched sides played to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes of regulation, with Bloomfield turning away 17 shots by the Wildcats to go with 10 corner kick opportunities. Sophomore keeper Kieran Moran (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded his second shutout of the season in a stellar effort, totaling three saves over 110 minutes of play between the posts.  Bloomfield's last shot of the afternoon proved to be difference in the 110th and final minute of the match, as Richards corralled a ball from midfielder Cesar Ventura (North Bergen, N.J.) and finished the contest with the golden goal, giving the Deacons their first league victory of the young season and a quality road victory to move the club to a game over .500.

"I was happy with the way we played today defensively, and it is great to get a win on the road against a quality opponent like Wilmington," Bloomfield head coach Peter-John Falloon said.  "This was a big game for us in conference, and to win it this way will hopefully provide us with some momentum as our conference schedule picks up."

Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, September 18, when they welcome non-conference opponent Merrimack College to Foley Field for a midweek match.  Kickoff for the contest is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
