Box Score Bloomfield, NJ - The LIU-Post men's basketball team, spurred by a game-ending 33-12 run, roared back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to knock off Bloomfield in the men's basketball home opener. The Pioneers were sparked by PJ Torres, who put up 25 points in the second half to lead the charge.
Bloomfield looked to be in command of the game through much of the first half as
Steve Henderson hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to spur the Deacons on a 14-6 run to end the half. Bloomfield took a 53-37 lead into the half behind 11 points from
Marvin Williams.
The Deacons gained a huge advantage on three-pointers in the first half as they shot 11-24 from long range, compared to LIU-Post who hit just 2-6 from behind the arc.
The Pioneers were able to cut into Bloomfield's lead in first part of the second half, but the Deacons were largely able to hold off LIU-Post from making any huge runs. A
Claude Blue three-pointer at the 8:40 mark gave the Deacons a 77-64 lead and looked to be a big lift in momentum for BC.
However, the Deacons would hit just one more field goal the remainder of the game, allowing the Pioneers back into the contest.
With the game tied at 80,
Kevin Udo hit two free throws to give Bloomfield an 82-80 lead. It would be the last lead of the night for the Deacons.
A Torres layup tied the game at 82 and the Pioneers hit four of their next five field goal attempts to take home the 92-85 win.
Matt Hall led Bloomfield in scoring, notching 17 points off the bench on 6-10 shooting. Williams added 15 and Blue had 14 for the Deacons. Torres ended the night with 33 points for LIU-Post.
The Deacons return to action Monday when they travel to take on Caldwell College in a road CACC matchup. Tipoff is set for 8:00pm.
