Nakaida Thomas (Trenton, NJ) poured in 22 points on 11-14 shooting from the field as the Deacons soared past the Eagles of Post University 76-58. The battle of the unbeaten CACC North Division rivals unfolded with Bloomfield claiming supremacy atop the conference standings with a perfect 5-0 record (7-3 overall). The loss dropped Post to 4-1 in conference play (4-7 overall).
The Bloomfield College fans were in for a treat as the highly anticipated matchup began with both teams trading buckets, knotting up the score at 19 with a little over 10 minutes to play in the half. Thomas and junior
Tierra Scott (Bear, DE) began to take control in the paint as the Deacons went on a 23-9 run to close out the half up 42-27.
The second half saw the Eagles try to claw back into the game, getting as close as 8 (38-46) however Bloomfield's defense stiffened and the lead ballooned to 21. Thomas poured in 14 second-half points powered by six offensive rebounds, while Scott picked up four blocks in the second stanza en route to the Deacon victory.
Four of the Deacons starters finished the game scoring double figures led by Thomas' 22. Freshman,
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, NJ) provided a spark off the bench scoring 11 points. Thomas also had a game high eight rebounds and junior
Lauren Deverin (Sewarin, NJ) snatched seven boards during the contest.
Bloomfield will take to the road this weekend as they face Assumption College on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Merrimack College on Sunday, Dec. 22 with both games starting at 1:30 pm.
