Box Score BOX SCORE

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Junior guard Marvin Williams reached a career milestone as a Deacon, scoring his 1,000th career point in a 77-71 victory for Bloomfield over the Warriors of Nyack College Thursday evening. Williams (Jersey City, NJ) began the game needing just 12 points to reach the plateau and finished the evening with 19 points fueled by 10-for-11 shooting from the free-throw line. The win improved the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division leading Deacons to 9-1 in conference action (11-7 overall) while dropping Nyack College to 4-6 in conference play (6-11 overall).

The energy in the Deacons Den was electric as sophomore forward Claude Blue (Brooklyn, NY) opened the game with a 3-point shot that brought the crowd to their feet. Williams would ease into the offensive action, calmly sinking two free-throws giving Bloomfield an early 7-5 advantage over the Warriors. The Deacon lead would balloon to as many as 14 in the opening staza (31-17) when Williams sank two more free-throws at the 7:30 minute-mark. Nyack would battle back before the end of the half, cutting the Bloomfield lead down to 41-38 on the strength of junior guard Cris Hampton (Queens, NY) pouring in 17 points for the Warriors. Williams went to the lockeroom with 9 points for the period and sitting at 997 career points.

The Deacon crowd was in shock when Nyack came out for the 2nd half to rip off a 13-2 run sinking Bloomfield into an 8 point deficit (51-43) during a game that seemed to be in the control of the CACC North Division leaders in the opening period. Blue would restore the confidence of the Deacon faithful with a thunderous dunk and sharp-shooter, senior guard Steve Henderson (West Orange, NJ) came in off the bench to hit two 3-pointers drawing Bloomfield even at 53-53. Williams 1,000th career point came when he hit a 3-pt shot of his own to put the Deacons up 57-55 only to be answered by Nyack's Hampton burying a bucket from beyond the arc to reclaim the lead for the Warriors(58-57). The announcement of the milestone was held off in the hotly contested battle until Williams stepped to the free-throw line once again, sinking two from the charity stripe putting Bloomfield up for good(68-67) and the crowd applauded the student-athlete's outstanding achievement. Despite the valiant effort, the Warriors would fall short as Bloomfield closed out the game with the 6 point victory.

Blue finished the contest with a double-double, scoring 20 points and a game high 12 rebounds. Senior center Kevin Udo (West Orange, NJ) contributed a double-double to the Deacons win as well, posting 10 points alongside 10 rebounds. Williams' 19 points on the evening gave him 1,007 and counting for his career. "It's a testiment to his work ethic and commitment on and off the court, I am proud of him," commented Coach Holmes after the game.

The Deacons next test comes when they travel to the city of Brotherly Love to take on the Rams of Philly U on Saturday, January 25th at 4:00 PM. The game will be held at the Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center (located on the corner of School House Lane and Henry Avenue). Catch the game live by CLICKING HERE at gametime.
