PIONEERS HOLD OFF BEARS LATE CHARGE TO HAND BLOOMFIELD 90-87 LOSS

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Down by as many as fourteen (61-47) in the second half the Bloomfield College Bears came charging back to lead by one (74-73) but couldn't hold on as non-conference rival, LIU Post secured a 90-87 victory Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreational Center. With the loss the Bears fall to 0-3 to start the season for the 4th consecutive year while the Pioneers improve to 1-2 in the early going of the 2014-2015 campaign.

Bloomfield saw five players finish in double-figures led by junior forward, Claude Blue's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) game-high twenty-six points but the Bears had no answer for the Pioneers senior guard P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) who netted his second double-double (22 points - 14 rebounds) in three games to will LIU Post to victory. LIU held a 54-39 advantage on the boards and that coupled with 36.4% shooting from-the-field led to Bloomfield only managing fourteen 2nd chance points.

The first half of the game went the Bears way for the most part as they enjoyed a 31-30 advantage with a little over two minutes left in the period. The Pioneers would explode on a 9-0 run to close out the half as a Torres dunk sealed the scoring sending Bloomfield to the lockeroom down 39-31.

In the second period, the Pioneers continued their attack, widening their advantage to as-many-as fourteen (64-50) before Bloomfield dug in and began to mount a comeback. Down 70-58, the Bears carved out a 16-3 run to seize the lead at 74-73 with a little over four minutes left in the game but it wasn't enough as LIU converted free throws down the stretch to cement the non-conference regional win.

Along with Blue's game-high offensive efforts, freshman Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) showed promise, netting fifteen points for the game including 11-for-11 from the charity stripe. Senior guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.) ended the game with fourteen points in 33 minutes of play and junior Clarence White (Bronx, N.Y.) along with freshman Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) added eleven points each.

The Bears will hibernate for the weekend before preparing for their home opener against Dowling College on Tuesday, November 25th at 7:00 pm. The Golden Lions will travel to Bloomfield seeking to avenge their last season loss at the hands of Bloomfield. Both teams will be looking for their first win of the 2014-2015 season.
