CHARGERS HAND BLOOMFIELD THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS IN 81-66 NON-CONFERENCE BATTLE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team suffered a 81-66 defeat at the hands of the Chargers from the University of New Haven on Friday night, watching the Northeast-10 squad shoot 50 percent from the floor at Charger Gymnasium. The loss drops the Bears to 3-6 on the year while New Haven improved to 6-3 overall.

Marvin William (Jersey City, N.J.) paced the Bears offense with 14 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Senior guard, Matt Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points coming in off the bench for Bloomfield in the setback. On the other side of the court Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) led the Chargers with 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) recorded his first double-double of the season behind 13 points and 10 rebounds while hitting on all six of his field goal attempts.

The Chargers took the lead right out the gate and ran the Bears rugged in the first half. Bloomfield still had New Haven in their sights with 6:24 remaining in the opening period and staring at just a four-point deficit (20-24). The Chargers galloped to 20-6 run to close out the stanza, sending the visitors to the lockeroom down 44-26.

The second half faired no better for the Bears as New Haven opened its largest lead of the contest at twenty-four on pair of occasions, the last coming with 10:49 remaining on the clock. Despite shooting 50.0% in the final period and out scoring New Haven 40-37, the margin was too great for Bloomfield to overcome and the Chargers took the non-conference battle victory.

Next up, Bloomfield will close out their 2014 calendar year with another non-conference tilt, this time taking on the Warriors of Merrimack College. Tip off is set for 3:00 pm and is slated as a doubleheader with the women's team kicking off the action against Assumption College at 1:00 pm. Stay up-to-date with the latest news, including game previews and recaps, from the Bloomfield College athletic department by liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter or Instagram @GO_BCBears.
