LAKEWOOD, NJ - Senior guard
Ivettlis Castro (Carteret,NJ) netted her 1,000th career point to help the Deacons hand Georgian Court University an 85-56 defeat in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action this afternoon. Castro finished up with a game-high 19 points as Bloomfield wins their 5th consecutive CACC contest.
In a game originally scheduled to be played at Bloomfield College, the Deacons were made to feel at home with the Lions of Georgian Court rolling out the welcome mat for the CACC matchup on short notice due to icy conditions on the Bloomfield campus. Castro came off the bench for the Deacons in the first half to net 7 points to draw her within 5 of the the 1,000th point plateau heading into the break. Sophomore guard
Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, VA) poured in 8 points to lead Bloomfield's offensive attack in the opening period. The Deacons would go up by as much as 9 points (35-26) in the half before heading to the lockeroom with a 5 point advantage (35-30) after 4 freethrows from GCU closed the gap.
The second half had Bloomfield really feeling at home shooting a comfortable 52.0% from the field and outscoring the Lions 50-26 in the stanza. With a little over five minutes remaining in the game, Castro raised up for a 3-pointer in the corner that drained the bottom of the net eclipsing 1,000 points for her career as a Deacon. Castro was met on the court by her teammates to breifly celebrate the milestone and saluted by the crowd for her accomplishment.
Wilson finished the game with 15 points to go along with 4 assists and Castro led a dominant bench performance for Bloomfield that outscored the Lions 46-5 as senior
Iliriana Lulgjuraj (Bloomfield, NJ) and junior
Lauren Deverin (Sewaren, NJ) dropped 10 and 12 points respectively. Junior Ashiri Broadwater (Chicago, IL) led the way for the Lions with 14 points and junior Tahira Matthews (Bloomfield, NJ) had a game high 8 rebounds.
