CALDWELL, N.J. – Sarina Soriano scored a pair of goals to lead the Caldwell University Cougars to a 4-0 win over the Bloomfield College women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action from Caldwell Field.
The setback dropped the Bears to 3-8-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference, while Caldwell improved to a 5-6-1 overall record, 5-1-1 in CACC play.
Soriano scored her first goal of the game after the home team had already gone up 1-0 on a header from teammate, Jessica LaConde in the 19
th minute of play. Soriano added her header off a free kick into the box to make the score 2 nil in favor of the Cougars in the opening half. Bloomfield was out-shot 12-4 in the first period and welcomed the halftime break to rest junior goalkeeper,
Diana Vincentini (Lacey TWP, N.J.) from the high volume of Caldwell offense.
More than forty minutes passed before the Cougars struck again for the 3-0 advantage at 62:11 but in the same fashion as earlier in the game. Remi Piccirillo headed a ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out for her third goal of the season.
The 4-0 lead came off of the foot of Soriano this time as she found her second goal of 2015 in the 76
th minute from five yards out.
Despite the four goals, Vincentini made nine saves on the day. The Bears offense mustered only four shots on the day but all of them on goal with 3 of them coming from freshman,
Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and one from classmate,
Silvia Jaske (Helsinki, Finland).
The Bears will take a weeklong hiatus before they return to the field Wednesday, Oct. 21st at 7 p.m. to host the Warriors of Nyack College. The CACC battle will also serve as Senior Night for Bloomfield as they honor the programs two seniors,
Sarah Barnes (Sayerville, N.J.) and
