BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Opportunity knocked on several occasions, yet the Bloomfield College women's soccer team salvaged a 3-3 draw Wednesday evening at Foley Field against the Warriors of Nyack College.
Â
The Bears celebrated Senior Night, honoring
Sarah Barnes (Sayerville, N.J.) and
Paola Ramos (North Bergen, N.J.) before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) which saw two would-be game-winners for Bloomfield (3-8-2, 1-7-2 CACC) come up short of snatching a victory away from the visiting Warriors.
Â
The Bears jumped out front in the 8
th minute off a pass from Barnes that freshman,
Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.) netted from just inside the 18 for a 1-0 advantage. The Bloomfield lead stayed intact until halftime as the home team held a 7-4 edge in shots during the first half. Junior goalkeeper,
Diana Vincentini (Lacey TWP, N.J.) picked up four saves in the opening period with all of Nyack's attempts being on target.
Â
The Warriors (1-13-2, 1-8-1 CACC) would take control in the second half, scoring three straight goals across a twelve-minute span to go up 3-1 in the contest. Vanessa Sefriou scored the equalizer on her first goal of the season at the 60:50 minute mark followed by Krystal Vega in the 71
st minute and capped by a second Sefriou goal in the 72
nd minute of play.
Â
With a greater sense of urgency felt on the Bloomfield sideline, the Bears put pressure on the Nyack defense and finally broke thru when
Karla Calderon (West New York, N.J.) buried a shot past the Warriors goalkeeper, Jordan Jansen off a brilliant pass from
Sammy Fonseca (San Jose, Costa Rica) in the 85
th minute. Almost three minutes later Calderon struck again, sneaking a goal past Jansen who had run up to the top of the box and misplayed the ball allowing the Bears striker to even the game at 3-3.
With the game winding down on the Bears' chances, freshman defender,
Carla Briscoe (Ontario, Canada) lobbed a free kick from the Bloomfield half of the field that Fonseca eventually corralled and took a shot from 20 yards out which sailed just right of an empty Warriors net in the 90
th minute.
Â
The teams would have to settle for overtime and with momentum clearly on Bears side, Bloomfield forced the issue in the overtime periods with a 5-0 advantage but Jansen thwarted three attempts that were on goal to preserve a tie for the visiting team. Â
Â
Jansen registered a game-high, 10 saves for Nyack while Vincentini turned away 6 shots on the evening for Bloomfield. The Bears held an 18-12 advantage in shots for the contest and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.Â
Â
Bloomfield's 2015 season begins to wind down after officially being eliminated from CACC post-season contention Wednesday night, with just two road games remaining on the schedule. Saturday the  Bears will travel to Delaware to face the Lightning of Goley-Beacom at 1:00 pm and then conclude their year on Wednesday at 3:00 pm when they visit Post University.
