BEARS BOUNCE BACK WITH 78-49 GALLOP OVER THE MAVERICKS

Box Score NEWARK, Del - Bloomfield College bounced back from a season opening loss less than twenty-four hours before to defeat the Mavericks of Mercy College, 78-49. An outstanding performance from sophomore transfer guard, Jahniece Jaffe (Egg Harbor, N.J.) saw her post early career-high numbers with 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field but all from beyond the three-point line to lead all scorers in the game. The win evened the Bears at 1-1 on the young season and dropped Mercy to 0-2 after the Saturday afternoon matchup at Wilmington University.

Bloomfield responded well to the new four-quarter rule across women's basketball as they dominated the first quarter 19-7 against the Mavericks. Mercy made a few adjustments to catch their stride in the second quarter and posted 15 points but the Bears were in control with a 35-22 advantage at the half.

Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) began the Bloomfield scoring in the third quarter by knocking down a shot from beyond the arc to extend their advantage to fourteen (38-24). The lead ballooned to twenty (49-29) after a Jaffe three-ball tickled the net at the 5:20 minute mark. The Bears kept that 20-point margin to finish out the third period up 58-38. Bloomfield saw their best offensive output of a quarter in 2015, clawing out 23 points during the third.

The Mavericks found no answers in the fourth quarter with the Bears finishing strong to post a 20-11 output and led by as-many-as 32. Jaffe netted 2 three-balls in the final quarter and finished the game with 2 assists and 2 rebounds.

Senior Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) came up big in her second game with Bloomfield, narrowly missing a double-double as she recorded 8 points (3-7 FG, 2-2 FT) and a game-high 10 boards. The Bears center also picked up 4 steals, a block and an assist. Junior Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) poured in 16 points (6-15 FG, 2-6 3-FG & 2-2 FT) on 40 percent shooting from the field to go along with six assists and two steals. Alexia Tucker (Halifax, Va.) came off the bench to go 3-for-7 including 2 from beyond the arc for 8 points. Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) and Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, M.D.) came in off the bench to chip in six points apiece with Taylor adding six assists.

The Mavericks were paced by Deasia Goodson and Cynthia Perez who each scored eleven points in the setback. Goodson also snagged six boards during the contest.

Bloomfield dominated the paint (53-29), transformed turnovers into points (32-19) and featured a blistering defense that forced 28 Maverick turnovers. The Bears dished out 21 assists and snatched 12 steals while the CACC pre-season #1 reserves out-scored Mercy's bench, 44-17.

The Bears next action comes their way when they play Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm. The home opener will also be Bloomfield's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action of 2015 as the Eagles of Post University swoop into town for a North Division battle.
