LAKEVIEW, N.J. – Player of the Year, Skylar German recorded 15 kills, 8 digs, 4 blocks and 3 service aces to lead top-seeded Post University to a 3-0 win over the second-seeded Bloomfield College volleyball team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship final on Saturday afternoon at the Wellness Center of Georgian Court University.
The win crowned the Eagles as back-to-back Champions of the CACC with an overall record of 25-9. The Bears fell just short but finished with an impressive 24-6 record in 2015 and now await word on a possible bid to the NCAA Championships.
Bloomfield fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-14. The Bears watched the Eagles soar on runs of 7-0 and 6-0 during the set that eventually led to the eleven-point win. The Bears could not recover after that and watched Post take sets two and three by winning scores of 25-21 and 25-19.
Set two was a back and forth affair with sophomore
Alex Glasper (Hainesport, N.J.) keeping Bloomfield close with a couple of key kills during the frame. The Eagles would use another run to close out the set and double their lead over the North Division's second seed. Despite being down 0-2, the Bears had confidence after coming back from a two-set deficit against Post on November 6th, but the defending CACC Champs had other plans.
The Eagles came out poised to close out the match in the third set and Bloomfield battled to keep the frame even but German, Tournament MVP, kept her team focused as they put away the match with a six-point spread.
Glasper finished the day with 4 kills and 4 blocks for the Bears, while junior
Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) recorded a team-high 10 kills to go along with 8 digs. Senior
Diannmarie Rivera chipped in 7 digs, 3 blocks and 2 service aces. Juniors
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) and
Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) paced the offense with 14 and 12 assists respectively.
Bermudez and Rivera were named to the 2015 All-CACC Tournament team for their performance in the Bears three post-season matches.
Despite missing out on the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, Bloomfield will watch intently to see if their historic season will be extended when the 64-team is announced on NCAA.com on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
