BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team were accustomed to slow starts to the season after beginning 0-3 for the last four consecutive campaigns however Tuesday night's 95-81 loss to LIU Post marked the Bears first 0-4 record since 2006-2007. The non-conference match up saw
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) and
Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) combine for over half (44) of Bloomfield's total points but the Pioneers posted five players with double-figures and improved to 4-1 in 2015.
Bloomfield opened the contest struggling to find consistent offense and fell behind 22-9 almost midway thru the first half. A Davidson jumper capped off a 9-0 run to pull the Bears to within four (18-22) but the Pioneers still controlled the game by halftime and enjoyed a 49-40 lead at the break.
Diez stepped up big in the second half in an attempt to bring the home team back into contention as he posted 11 points (5-6 FG) and 11 boards. The Pioneers led by as-many-as sixteen points in the frame but a Diez layup in the paint drew the Bears to within six (70-76) with 7:20 to play. Bloomfield did not have enough offensive fire power to complete the comeback and LIU Post extended their lead back up to double digits and shut the door on the Bears.
The Pioneers shot 50 percent from the field for the night and featured 5 players in double-figures including a team-high 22 points from Greg Dotson (Abington, P.A.). Diez finished his solid night with a double-double, netting 21 points (7-13 FG, 5-6 FT) and snagging a game-high 15 rebounds. Davidson led all scorers with 23 points (7-13 FG, 6-7 FT) while freshman
Robert Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) added ten points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field.
The Bears next challenge comes December 2nd when they take to the road for a match up against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rival, Concordia College. The 7:00 pm tip off with the Clippers will be Bloomfield's second league contest of 2015.
