WEST CHESTER, Pa. –
Juan Brown (Annapolis, M.D.) scored a career-high 18 points to lead all scorers but it was not enough as Bloomfield dropped a 73-62 non-conference matchup against West Chester University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon on the road at Hollinger Field House.
The setback snapped the Bears three-game winning streak and lowered their overall record to 3-6 while the red-hot Golden Rams improved to 9-1 in 2015.
Brown shot 4-for-5 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in his best performance as a Bear. The rest of the Bloomfield team managed just thirteen field goals (17-49 FG) as the visitors scored a season-low 62 points at a 34.7 percent clip from the floor.
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) chipped in 13 points (2-9 FG, 2-3 3FG, 7-10 FT) and four rebounds while senior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 9 points (4-15 FG) and four rebounds as well. Sophomore
Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) snagged a team-high 10 boards including nine on the defensive glass to go along with six points.
On the other side of the ball three Golden Rams finished in double figures. Avery Brown netted 13 points to lead the home team while Malik Jackson and Mike Wilson each contributed 12 points in support. Matt Wiseley finished the day with 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals for the PSAC Eastern Division's top team.
Despite the poor shooting performance on the day Bloomfield held a 55-49 lead with 7:57 remaining in the game after two free throws from the game's high scorer. The Golden Rams charged ahead on a 9-0 run to seize control of the contest's momentum in front of their home crowd. West Chester out shot the Bears 20-7 across the final 5:51 to seal their ninth victory in the last ten games.
Bloomfield will look to start another winning streak as they return to the confines of home for a Sunday afternoon showdown with Stonehill College. The Skyhawks swoop into the Bloomfield Gym for a non-conference 1:00 pm tipoff. The Bears will closeout 2015 on New Years Eve with another non-conference opponent in the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College.
