BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Bloomfield College fell to Caldwell College 8-6 in game one of a doubleheader on a grand slam in the top of the seventh. The umpires declared conditions too dark to play after six innings of game two with the game tied at two. The course of action for the completion of game two has yet to be decided.
In game one, Bloomfield fell behind 4-0 when Caldwell scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth. However, the Bears bounced back with perhaps their biggest offensive inning of the year when they sent 11 girls to the plate and scored six runs.
Janese Timmons got the rally started with a double and
Melissa Yepez and
Kelly Stites followed with singles. Yepez's singled plated Timmons with the first run for BC.
Aubrey Orr sinngled and
Angela Hauser hit a bases-clearing double to tie the score at four.
Bloomfield was not done there though as
Kirsten Wilson singled in a run and Timmons had her second hit of the inning, an RBI single to center to make the score 6-4.
However, the Bears couldn't hang on as Caldwell hit a grand slam in the seventh to give them the decisive runs.
Bloomfield had 12 hits in the game with Orr going 3-4 to lead the way. Timmons was 2-4 and Yepez was 2-3. Hauser was 1-4, but she made her lone hit count as it drove in three runs.
In game two, Bloomfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Caldwell in the second, but Caldwell answered with two runs in the fourth. The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when
Lauren Bueno launched her fourth homer of the season to left. However, after the third out of the inning was made, the home plate umpire stopped the game due to darkness. The teams will wait further instruction on how to proceed from here.
