ORR, WILSON, BUENO DRIVE IN 10 AS BC SPLITS WITH USP

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Lauren Bueno, Aubrey Orr and Kirsten Wilson combined to dirve in 10 runs in the first game, but the Bloomfield bats went cold in game two as the Bears split a CACC twinbill against University of the Sciences.  Bloomfield won game one 10-2 and dropped game two, 3-1.

Game one looked to be a low-scoring affair as the Bears and Devils were knotted at two going into the sixth.

Bloomfield (17-9, 7-3 CACC) and USciences each scored their runs in the third inning.

For Bloomfield, Kelly Stites led off the inning with a double and was bunted to third by Annette Daw.  Bueno then doubled home Stites to give them their first lead.  Orr then singled home Bueno to extend Bloomfield's lead to 2-0.

The Devils however answered back in the bottom of the inning.  Wilson struck out the first two bnatters of the inning, but gave up a two out single to left and an infield pop up was misplayed into a hit.  A hit by pitch loaded the bases and the Devils pushed across two runs on a mishandled comebacker and a hti by pitch with the bases loaded.

The game stayed tied into the sixth when Bloomfield batted around and scored four runs.

Melissa Yepez led off the inning by being hit by a pitch and Janese Timmons followed with a single.  Stites bunted them up a base and Daw reached on an error to load the bases.  Bueno then walked to force in the go-ahead run.  Bloomfield was not done there though.

Orr hit an RBI single to center and Wilson followed with a two-run single of her own to make the score 6-2.

After a quick bottom of the sixth, Bloomfield's bats kept going in the top of the seventh.

Timmons and Stites singled and Bueno cracked a long three run homer to left center.  Orr then followed with a single, stole second and then scored on another hit by Wilson.

Wilson notched her CACC-leading 11th win as she moved to 11-2 with her 12th complete game of the year.  She scattered 9 hits and had eight strikeouts.  Both of the runs she allowed were unearned.  This was the first time Wilson gave up more than 6 hits in a game this season.

Bloomfield had 14 hits in the game, with Orr and Wilson each going 3-5.  Wilson ended with three RBIs and Orr had two.

Bueno, Timmons and Stites had two hits each as well.

Bloomfield couldn't keep the offensive momentum going in game two though.

The Devls jumped on Bloomfield first this tme when they pushed across two runs in the third without a ball leaving the infield.

The inning started when a short infield pop was misplayed at third base and a swinging bunt put runners on first and second.  For the second straight game, a comebacker was mishandled in the middle of a USciences rally to load the bases with no outs.  A bases loaded walk gave the Devils their first run and they scored their second when a grounder was fielded at third with no throw made to any base.

Miller (6-7) did well to get out of the jam from there though as she induced two infield pops and a force out at home.

USciences added an important insurance run in the fifth when Miller walked and hit the first two batters of the inning.  After a flyout and a fielder's choice, the runners advanced on a crucial passed ball.  USciences then hit a short infield pop up that fell between Miller, Daw and Shannon Brennan at first to score their third run.

The Bears were able to mount rallies in the sixth and seventh, but ultimately couldn't come up with the clutch hit needed to tie the game.

In the sixth, Yepez reached on an error and Daw hit a two-out single to left.  Bueno then launched a long shot of the left field fence, falling just a couple feet short of a game-tying home run.  Yepez scored on the play, but Daw was thrown out at third to end the inning.

Bloomfield again put the tying runs on base in the seventh when Wilson walked and Greta Coleman singled to left.  However, two infield grounders ended the threat and USciences walked away with the 3-1 win.

Miller again pitched well in defeat, turning in a complete game with six hits and three runs allowed.

Orr and Coleman each went 2-3 to pace Bloomfield, who had seven hits (all singles) in the game.

The Bears still remain among the top teams in the CACC standings at 7-3.  Their 17 wins still pace the East Region, with Wilmington University just behind with 16.

Bloomfield has a busy week ahead with four CACC doubleheaders scheduled.  They take on Holy Family, Dominican and Concordia on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then face Philadelphia on Saturday.
