WARRIORS SWEEP BEARS AT HOME IN CACC BASEBALL DOUBLE DIP

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Bears struggles this season continued on Tuesday with two losses to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Nyack College (5-19, 3-5). Bloomfield (2-18, 1-9) dropped game one 4-2 and game two 8-5.

The Bears struck first in game one scoring in the bottom of the second after Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.) stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Montero finished the game with two hits.

Bloomfield lost the lead in the top of the fourth when senior starter Francesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, N.Y.) surrendered back-to-back doubles to start the inning, tying the game at 1-1. Nyack scored again later in the inning on a two out single to give them a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth when they scored two runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Scudiero exited the game in the eighth with an apparent arm injury, ending his day after 7.1 innings with three earned runs and six strikeouts. Kyle Murzyn (Glassboro, N.J.) entered and shut out the Warriors offense for the remainder of the game.

The Bears showed signs of a late inning comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.) singled to center field and Juan Hilario (Bronx, N.Y.) walked. Montero reached on a fielder's choice moving Reina to third. Next, Carlos Flete (Jamaica, N.Y.), Bloomfield's hottest hitter, stepped up to the plate and drove in Reina with a sacrifice fly to deep center making it a 4-2 game.

Nyack closed the game out as the Bears went quietly in the bottom of the ninth.

Senior hurler, Lucas Junger (Waretown, N.J.) got the ball in game two pitching six innings giving up five earned runs.

The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board with a lead-off double in the first that came around to score on a sacrifice fly that produced a 1-0 lead.

Bloomfield answered back in the first when Isaac Pichardo (Passaic, N.J.) walked. After stealing second Pichardo came in to score on a throwing error by the second baseman tying the game at one.

After Nyack put up two more runs in the second, the Bears scored in the bottom half of the inning on a two out RBI single by Pichardo, bringing in Anthony Lantigua (Bellville, N.J.).

The Warriors scored two more in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Hilario drove in Brandon Morales (Hileah, F.L.) with a single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3, but Nyack scored two more in the top of the sixth extending their lead to 7-3.

Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, C.A.) came on to pitch in the seventh. The junior pitched 2.2 innings giving up one earned run. He left the game in the top of the ninth with his team trailing 8-5. Murzyn came in for one out and got the Bears out of a jam. Bloomfield was unable to come from behind and steal the victory, dropping their sixth consecutive game.
