WOMEN'S SOCCER FIGHTS OFF CHARGERS FOR 3-1 CACC HOME WIN

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College women's soccer team entertained an electric home crowd at Foley Field Wednesday evening with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Dominican College.

"I thought we made good decisions with the ball which allowed us to create scoring opportunities," head coach Philip Fluhr said.

Sophomore Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, N.Y.), junior Sammy Fonseca (Trenton, N.J.) and freshman Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.J.) all recorded goals in the Bears victory.

In the third minute, McWilliams finished a ball off a cross into the box by junior Alicia Galiano (Washington TWP, N.J.) that was headed to the left by Fonseca which edged the ball out to Nicole, who hit a fading crack into the top left corner netting to put Bloomfield up 1-0.

Eleven minutes later, Fonseca took an opportunity to squeeze a shot past the Chargers keeper off a beautiful one-touch pass from Parello in the box. The Bears were out-shot 6-2 in the first half but went into the halftime break in command 2-0.

The hotly contested match heated up in the second half after the Chargers narrowed their deficit with a goal from their senior Jamie McGinn (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 68th minute. The 2-1 game had emotions boil over down the stretch as five yellow cards were awarded, with four of them going to the visiting team.

Bloomfield (3-3, 1-3 CACC) put the game out of reach in the 84th minute when Parello recorded her first goal of the season with a shot off a scramble in the box that left the Dominican (0-4, 0-3 CACC) goalkeeper injured after the play.

The Bears keeper, Diana Vincentini (Lacey TWP, N.J.) registered six saves on the eve of her birthday and picked up her third win of the season.

Bloomfield will welcome another CACC opponent to Foley Field on Saturday when they take on the Tigers of Holy Family.  The game is set to begin at 11:00am on the pitch.
