BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bears men's basketball team saw five players score in double-figures but it was not enough as the Devils of USciences held on for a 69-66 win Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Gym.
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) led the way with a team-high 16 points as the loss dropped the Bears to 4-10 on the season and even at 4-4 in league action. The Devils improved to 9-5 overall with the road victory and 6-1 in CACC play.
Kelly picked up a career-high five steals to go along with his 16 points (5-9 FG, 6-6 FT), four rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes on the court. Senior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stepped up with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from the line to add to his seven boards and three blocks. Sophomore
Juan Brown (Annapolis, M.D.) also recorded 11 points (2-8 FG) going a perfect 6-for-6 from the line and dished out four helpers.
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) and
Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J.) each netted 10 points and 3 rebounds on the afternoon for Bloomfield.

The Devils saw Sho Da-Silva explode for game-highs of 22 points (9-18 FG, 4-5 FT) and 9 rebounds in 36 minutes of play.

The Bears who lose their second straight CACC game for the first time this season opened up the contest shooting 33.3 percent (10-30) from the field. The Devils capitalized by knocking in 15 baskets at a 45.5 percent (15-33) clip and took a 35-26 lead into the halftime break. The CACC South Division's second place team outrebounded Bloomfield 24-15 in the first half including 16 on the defensive glass. Kelly scored 12 of his points in the opening period and went 3-for-6 from the floor but the Bears trailed from wire to wire of the quarter.

Blue opened the second half with a three-point play that gave the home team life, but a Devils' jumper nudged the visitors' lead to 39-29 just 2:05 in. Bloomfield engineered a 16-6 run over the next six minutes to draw even at 45-45. Da-Silva broke the tie with a three-point play and USciences pushed back up front by six after he scored a bucket in the paint with 7:46 on the clock. Davidson hit back to back layups on consecutive possessions for the Bears to knot the score at 59 all but once again Da-Silva broke the tie and kept his team on top. Bloomfield mounted a last-ditched effort for the game as Brown buried a three ball to draw his team within two (66-68) with 1:21 remaining. The clock ticked down with the Bears searching for a basket on their last possession but Abdus-Sabur committed a costly turnover that sealed the win for the Devils and prevented Bloomfield from even getting a shot off.

USciences outshot Bloomfield, 46.4 percent (26-56) to 41.4 percent (24-58), including 28.6 percent (4-14) to 25.0 percent (2-8) from long distance. The Bears sank more free throws (16) than the Devils (13) and were plus four in steals. The glass belonged to USciences 37-31 and they held a slight 36-34 edge in the paint.

The Bears return to action Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College. The Jan 12
th meeting is scheduled for an 8:00 pm tip. The next home game for Bloomfield is Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7:00 p.m. when they play host to Southern New Hampshire University.
