BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team saw junior transfer,
Jamar Leigh (Mandeville, Jamaica) score his first career goal as Bear in the 84
th minute of the game but it was not enough as the home team suffered a 2-1 loss at the feet of Millersville University Saturday afternoon at Foley Field. The homecoming setback left the Bears at 3-8-2 overall while the non-conference Marauders improved to 9-3-2 with the decision.
Â
The teams played to a scoreless first half with both squads trying to figure out the other in their first meeting on the pitch. They combined for seven shots during the opening period with Bloomfield holding a slight 4-3 advantage.
Â
The visitors seized control during the second period with a penalty kick at the 68:01 mark that put Millersville up 1-0. In the 76
th minute, Omar Guzman (Reading, Pa.) netted what turned out to be the deciding goal on a shot past
Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) that gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with the second half winding down. Leigh's goal came on a corner kick from
Warwick Sterling (Lauderhill, Fla.) and drew the Bears to within one but the Marauders held on for the win.
Â
Next up Bloomfield hits the road for a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match with Dominican College on Tuesday. The Bears face an almost must-win scenario to keep their postseason hopes alive as they face the Chargers with a 3:30 pm start in Orangeburg.
