ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College men's soccer team saw senior
Rafique Roberts (Portmore, Jamaica) come off the bench and picked up three points as the Bears handed Dominican College a 2-1 loss in Orangeburg, N.Y. Wednesday afternoon. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory improved Bloomfield to 4-8-2 overall and 3-5-2 in league action while the Chargers fell to 4-11 on the year and 3-7 in conference games.
Â
The home team seized an early advantage with a shot past the Bears goalie,
Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) in the fifth minute of play that gave Dominican a quick 1-0 lead. The two teams jockeyed for position the rest of the half as Bloomfield took the one goal deficit all the way to halftime. The Chargers outshot the visiting team 8-4 in the opening period but after an inspiring head coach speech at the break, the Bears looked to turn things around in the second half.Â
Â
Roberts took the words of inspiration to heart and served up a pass to classmate,
Amin Miller (Mandeville, Jamaica) at the 60:40 minute mark that tickled the back of the net for the striker's third goal of the season. Less than five minutes later (65:01) with the score knotted at 1-1 Roberts took maters into his own hands, scoring the go-ahead-goal and his second of the season. Bloomfield turned the tables and outshot the home team 8-4 in the final period and took the much needed conference win.
Â
Bloomfield will look to keep their post-season hopes alive as they welcome Philadelphia University on Saturday in another key league match up. The 3:30 pm CACC thriller will feature two teams battling for a playoff spot and the chance to take home the CACC trophy at the end of the tournament.
