Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.U) went 7-for-13 from the field in the Bears season opener Friday night but it was not enough as Bloomfield fell, 95-82 to the Falcons of Bentley College. The Bentley Tip-Off Classic loss left the visiting at 0-1 after leaving the Dana Center while the hosts improved to 1-0 with their 6
th straight season opener win.
Davidson's second highest opening day point total was complimented by classmate,
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) and his 7-for-9 performance from the field for 16 points. Sophomore
Safee Abdus-Sabur came off the bench and chipped in a solid 13-point night while redshirt-freshman Chiedozie Akawauku (Newark, N.J.) barely missed a double-double, leading the Bears with a team-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points.
Both teams made an identical 32 buckets but the Falcons distanced themselves by shooting 52.0 percent (13-25) from beyond the arc and made more freethrows (18) than Bloomfield attempted (11-15). The home team won the battle on the boards 35-27 and handed out more assists with a 21-14 advantage.
The Bears will spend the night on the road as they look to redeem themselves Saturday evening with another showdown at the Tip-Off Classic. This time they will square up with Merrimack College for 6:00 pm start as they search for their first victory of the 2016-17 campaign.
