Waterbury, Conn. - The Bloomfield College men's basketball team used three players in double figures to defeat Post University, 78-64 on the road Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center. The Bears exacted revenge for the home opener loss to the Eagles earlier in the season and collected their third consecutive victory as they now sit at 12-11 overall and alone atop the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division at 11-5.
The setback left the Post U with a 12-10 overall mark and 8-7 in league action.
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.), fresh off of his CACC Player of the Week and All-Met Honorable Mention, had a stellar game as he shot 8-for-14 from the field for 21 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) wasn't far behind with 19 points (7-13 FG, 5-6) and added three boards, three assists and three blocks for the Bears. Sophomore starter
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) chipped in a solid 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-5 FT) and snagged five boards of his own.
CACC Rookie of the Week, Tamos Okros produced 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor to lead the Eagles.
Bloomfield spotted the home team a 5-0 before Blue and Kelly tied the match less the three minutes in. A little over halfway thru the first period the Bears stretched in front by eleven (26-15) on a Kelly basket in the paint. By the halftime break, Bloomfield headed into the locker room up 39-29 with Blue recording ten points in the opening frame.
In the second half the Eagles climbed to within eight points at the 17:44 mark before Davidson and Kelly closed the door as the tandem scored 15 and 12 points respectively in the period. The Bears advantage expanded to 77-55 on a conventional three-point play by Kelly and the team cruised down the stretch for their third consecutive victory.
Bloomfield, winners of 8-of their last-9 will look to continue the hot-streak when they face off in the Clash of the Titans on Saturday, February 13. The CACC South Division #1 team, Holy Family University, will step into the Bloomfield Gym for a 3:00 pm battle as the Bears also celebrate their 'We Play for A' game in honor of Avery Thompson.
