BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Senior All-Conference forward
Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led five double-figure scorers with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the top-seeded Bloomfield College men's basketball team advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semifinals with a 79-69 home victory over fourth-seed Chestnut Hill College in the Tournament's Quarterfinals Saturday, Feb. 27.
Freshman point guard
Juan Brown (Annapolis, Md.) paced the Bloomfield offense in the opening half, notching eight points on 3-4 shooting, including 2-3 from three-point range. The Bears (15-12) would shoot an even 50 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes of play, going 6-11 from long range to build a 35-30 lead heading into the intermission.
Bloomfield would lead by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Griffins (13-15) would cut the lead to just a single bucket at 53-51 with 11:06 remaining in the half. But the Bears would never trail in the second stanza, pulling away behind 11 second-half points from Blue to cruise to the double-digit victory and secure a trip to the CACC Semis in pursuit of the program's seventh Tournament championship under head coach
Gerald Holmes.
Sophomore
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) and freshman
Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, N.J.) each totaled 14 points in the win, while Brown finished with 13 points and two assists. Sophomore forward
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
For Chestnut Hill, Edward McWade tallied a game-high 23 points in the loss. Noel Hightower and Antonio Toplyn, Jr. posted 12-point, 12-rebound and 10-point, 10-rebound double-doubles respectively.
