POMONA, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College baseball team kept their 2016 post-season hopes alive with a sweep over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Nyack College Saturday at the Provident Bank Park in New York by the scores of 5-2 in game one and 7-3 in game two.

The Bears sit at 8-10 in league play after the two wins with their final CACC games for scheduled for Tuesday at home against Felician University. Nyack fell to 10-8 in conference play after the setbacks and now both teams are in the thick of a nine-team race for the CACC tournament's six playoff spots. The Warriors fell to 13-22 overall on the year while Bloomfield moved to 11-22 in 2016.

Nyack celebrated their Senior Day prior to the start of game one but the Bears celebrated the first run of the game in the top of the sixth as
Luke Loughery (Sussex, N.J.) scored on an Azmir Garcia (Passaic, N.J.) single after being hit by a pitch and then stealing second.

Nyack answered in the bottom half with a 2-out, 2 RBI single that made the score 2-1 for the home team. Bloomfield knotted the game at 2-2 in the 7
th when Cristopher Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) came around and scored on a passed ball once he reached base on a walk.
Harry Montero (Millville, N.J.) singled in the eighth and drove in Loughery who had been hit by another pitch and the Bears took the lead for good, 3-2. Bloomfield tacked on two runs in the ninth to cement the game one victory.

Steven Acosta (Lakewood, N.J.) picked up the win for the Bears in the opening game going eight innings and surrendered two runs on five hits while walking four batters. Freshman
Anthony Maldonado (Newark, N.J.) closed the door with a scoreless ninth as he struck out the side to record his third save of the season.

In game two Bloomfield seized control early with a 4-run 2
nd inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Warriors cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the third but the Bears added two more runs in the 6th and one in the 8th to complete the sweep.

Junior right hander,
Carlos Tejeda (New York, N.Y.) kept Nyack in check from the mound, pitching a complete game, scattering eight hits while striking out seven, walking one and giving up three earned runs.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday when they host the Golden Falcons at West Side Park. The CACC doubleheader is slated to begin with game one's first pitch at 12:00pm if weather permits.
