WILMINGTON, DEL. – After a great opening day the Bloomfield College women's volleyball team dropped two non-conference matches at the 2016 Wildcat Invitational Saturday afternoon to American International College and Pace University. The setbacks dropped the Bears overall record to 3-5 on the year.
In match 1, Bloomfield lost a nail-biter to the Yellow Jackets by set scores of 25-21 (A), 25-23 (B), 25-19 (A), 25-21 (B) and 15-13 (A) to begin their afternoon on the campus of Wilmington University.
Senior
Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) notched 13 kills, 11 digs and 4 blocks while
Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J.) registered 10 kills and 6 blocks. Seniors,
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) and
Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) served up 26 and 20 assists respectively and libero,
Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) led the Bears in match one with 17 digs. Junior
Alex Glasper (Hainesport, N.J.) added in three blocks.
The Pacesetters lived up to their name as they set the pace and took match 2 with set scores of 25-23 (P), 25-18 (B), 25-20 (P) and 26-24. Bermudez contributed a tremendous effort in match 2 adding 15 kills and 17 digs for the Bears. Madlock served up most of the chances against pace, recording 39 assists. Rios was solid in the setback, pouring in 20 digs to closeout the day.
Bloomfield will return home to regroup and prepare for another road trip, this time to New Haven, Conn. to face the Owls of SCSU for the second time this season. The Bears are set to play a 7:00 pm match on Tuesday, September 13 against the non-conference opponent.
