OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Bloomfield College women's volleyball team earned a split in two non-conference matches to Southern Connecticut State University and NYIT on Saturday afternoon as part of a tri-match at Recreation Hall on the campus of NYIT. After securing their first win of 2016, the Bears now sit at 1-3 on the season.
Bloomfield swept the Owls with set scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-18 in Match 1 of the afternoon.
Senior
Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) recorded 12 kills and 7 digs while classmates
Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) and
Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) had 19 and 16 assists respectively. Libero,
Samantha Rios led the Bears in Match one with thirteen digs while
Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J.) registered five blocks.
The tables reversed in Match 2 as the visiting Bears dropped straight sets of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20 to the their hosts, NYIT. Rios added 15 digs to her totals for the day while Paulino tacked on 4 more blocks and chipped in 10 kills.
Bloomfield will rest up for the week before returning to the road for more non-conference action beginning Friday, September 9 with at tri-match at the Wilmington Invitational. The Bears will face the Dolphins of Le Moyne College for the second time at 3:00 pm and then take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at 7:00 pm.
