STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS BEARS OVER CLIPPERS AT HOME, 102-93

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – After trailing at halftime, the Bloomfield College men's basketball team came out firing on all cylinders in the second half to carve out a 102-93 decision Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rival, Concordia College. The Saturday afternoon battle at the Den saw a career day in a Bear uniform from transfer guard, Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) who poured in 24 points including 14 in the final frame to help put the home team ahead for good. Fleming also notched a double-double along with freshman, Chiedozie Akawauku (Newark, N.J.) as they both snagged ten boards and the rookie added fifteen points. Bloomfield saw all five of their starters finish in double figures, and a 54-42 advantage on the scoreboard in the final helped the home team overcome their deficit at the break.

How It Happened
  • Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) opened up the contest with a three-pointer and Rakwan Kellly (Newark, N.J.) buried a jumper that gave Bloomfield a 5-0 advantage from the onset. The lead grew to ten (19-9) before the Clippers began to cut into the point margin with a 13-4 spurt that pulled them to 22-23
  • Starting guard, Ahmed Williams (Monroe, N.J.) answered with a jumper and a shot from long range to extend the lead back up 28-22 but the teams still jockeyed for position until the visitors seized their first advantage of the game, 45-44 with under two minutes until the half
  • Concordia netted a layup as the buzzer sounded to claim a 51-48 lead with the teams headed to the locker rooms and Coach Holmes not pleased with his team's effort to closeout the half
  • Bloomfield came out of the break poised to regain their composure but Concordia would not surrender the lead easily and the visiting team held on to a 62-56 margin just four minutes into the frame. Less than three minutes later, the Bears muscled their way ahead as Davidson buried a jumper and the CACC North Division leader never trailed again
  • Another three-pointer from Williams followed by an Akawuaku bucket in the paint ballooned the Bears lead to seventeen (94-77) with 3:00 minutes left to play and the Clippers powerless to slow down the onslaught before the final outcome
  • The Bears are undefeated when scoring 83 points or more this season and the 102 points on offense marked the highest output of the 2016-17 campaign.

Up Next: Bloomfield welcomes a familiar CACC foe to the Den when the Golden Falcons of Felician University fly into town. The Tuesday evening match up is slated for a 7:30 pm tip off.
