SPARKILL, NY – The women's basketball team opened their 2017-18 season with an, 84-60 loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) at the ECC, CACC Challenge Friday evening. The road setback dropped the Bears to 0-1 on the early season while the Spartans improved to 1-0 as the hosts of the Challenge shot over fifty percent from the field for the game.
Senior transfer,
Dayanni Cochran (Las Vegas, NV) had a solid day in her Bloomfield debut, as she netted a team-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds. Junior
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) chipped 13 points and three boards while
Ilysia Lewis (Baltimore, MD) recorded nine buckets, six rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Bears shot only 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the field including an 18.8 percentage (3-of-16) from beyond the arc while the home team shot at a 45.0 percent (9-20) clip from three-point range and remained in control most of the game. STAC saw three players in double-figures including freshman, Zaria Thomas (Elmira, NY) who came off the bench to light up 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
After suffering a setback in her collegiate coaching debut, head coach
Vanessa Watson and Bloomfield will be back in action Saturday at 1:00 pm as they continue play in the ECC, CACC Challenge with a battle against Mercy College. Live video and stats will be available for the game and links can be found on the all-new BC Bears website.
