BEARS FALL, 3-2 IN LAST INNING THRILLER AGAINST STONEHILL IN FLORIDA

BOCA RATON, FLA. – The Bloomfield College baseball team knocked in two-runs in the top of the 9th inning to even up a hotly contested match up in the Sunshine State but a last minute run in the bottom of the frame gave Stonehill College a, 3-2 win Tuesday morning at Lynn Baseball Field.

The setback was the opening game for the Bears Spring Break trip to Florida and saw junior Cristopher Cabral (Lodi, N.J.) go 2-for-4 with one RBI.

How It Happened

  • 1st inning – Carlos Tejeda (New York, N.Y.) got the nod on the mound and pitched five and two-thirds innings for the Bears. He gave up just one run that came in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch. The Bloomfield ace settled in and kept the Skyhawks off the board across the next four innings of play and struck out five
  • 8th inning – Stonehill doubled the Bears deficit with a solo homer to right field off of reliever, Ellis Sanchez (Kearny, N.J.) who came in the game to start the bottom of the seventh
  • 9th inning – Bloomfield was determined to make a stand and Ramger Iglesias (Bronx, N.Y.) began the rally with a single to left field. Iglesias stole second and later came home on a single from Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.). The Bears had new life as Cabral stepped to the plate and belted his second single on the day, this time to center field that scored Reina and tied up the game at 2-2. The drama built in the bottom half of the inning with the bases loaded for the Skyhawks and two outs but Sanchez couldn't find the pitch to keep Bloomfield's hopes alive and a walk off single ended the day

Up Next: The Bears look to compose themselves and challenge Stonehill again tomorrow for another 10:00 am start.
