WILMU ESCAPES WITH 3-2 CACC WIN OVER BEARS AT HOME

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Bloomfield College women's soccer squared off with the Wilmington University (WilmU) Wildcats Saturday afternoon and suffered a, 3-2 setback in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. The exciting game at Foley Field came down to a single goal in the 2nd half that propelled Wilmu to 4-2-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play while the Bears (0-4 CACC) still search for their 1st win in league battles and fell to a 1-4 overall mark.

The Wildcats, one of the top teams in the CACC so far this season, jumped out in front early, netting two goals within the first fifteen minutes of play in the opening half. Bloomfield settled in and came storming back to show their improvements this season with two goals of their own before the intermission break. At the 24:01 minute mark, Brigid Dwyer (Brick, NJ) chipped a long shot over the head of WilmU's goalie, who had run up to the top of the box and couldn't recover before the ball bounced into the net for the freshman's second goal of the season.

In the 26th minute, team co-captain, Lisa Parello Staten Island, NJ) knocked in the equalizer on a bouncing ball outside the 18 and scored her 2nd goal of 2017. Bloomfield showed the CACC teams were evenly matched and even out-shot the Wildcats, 8-7 in the first half.

Preslie Quaranta from Wilmu punched in what turned out to be the decisive goal at the 55:18 mark when she dribbled into the box and put a shot past Jessica Larson (Delran, NJ) from fifteen yards out. The Bears fought hard but could not find the answering goal the remainder of the period as WilmU escaped with the league win. Larson finished the day with five saves on eight shots on goal.

Bloomfield will search for that elusive first CACC victory when the Warriors travel down the Garden State Parkway for a battle on Wednesday, September 20th. Nyack College has yet to win a game this season as they are set to square off at 7:00 pm from Foley Field.
