BEARS STEP PAST SPARTANS AT FOLEY FIELD, 2-1

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The women's soccer team notched their second consecutive victory for the first time since 2015 with a, 2-1 decision over St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Saturday afternoon at Foley Field. The non-conference battle on the pitch featured all first half scoring but captivated the #BearsNation from start to finish.
 
The Spartans (1-4-1) celebrated early with a blast from outside the 18 over the outstretched arm of Jessica Larson (Delran, NJ) that put the visitors up 1-0 in just the 5th minute of play. The Bloomfield (3-4) defense remained under pressure as STAC fired off eight shots in the opening period to just two from the home team.
 
However the two shots fired for the Bears, tickled the back of the net, first when Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, NY) scored from inside the box on a beautiful ball delivered by Ashley Ramirez (Wayne, NJ) on a free kick. McWilliams' second goal of the season came in at the 31:03 minute mark to knot the game at 1-1 and Bloomfield wasted very little time as Ramirez drove in the go-ahead goal four minutes later.
 
Up 2-1, the home team went into the halftime break to cool off with the sun beaming down on the turf at Foley Foley. The defense stepped up in the second half to preserve the victory as Larson stopped 10 shots on the afternoon and the Bears anchors, Ciara Alston (Carteret, NJ), Malinda Heffernan (Staten Island, NY) and Jessica Kenny (Staten Island, NY) pushed aside the Spartans attack down the stretch.
 
Next up, Bloomfield will continue their red-hot play in a 'Battle of the Bears' on the road against NYIT. The Wednesday afternoon showdown in Old Westbury, NY is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
