PHILADELPHIA, PA – Women's volleyball traveled down the NJ Turnpike for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) battle with a South Division team and came up on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision against USciences Saturday afternoon. The Devils (3-6, 2-4 CACC) swept Bloomfield (5-9, 4-2 CACC) with set scores of, 25-23, 30-28 and 25-12.
In the opening set the Bears led by as-many-as seven points but allowed USciences to rally and eventually go-ahead 20-17. Bloomfield could not regain the momentum in the first set as the home team claimed the 25-23 win. In the second set, the visitors had the Devils on the ropes with set point at 24-21 but couldn't close the door to even the match at one set apiece. Instead, Usciences came out on top after six set points and put the Bears in a 2-0 hole. The home team rode out the wave in the third and final set to hand Bloomfield their second consecutive CACC loss.
Jandra Fabian (Santa Dominigo, DR) led the way for the Bears with 21 kills, 17 digs and even chipped in 2 assists and a block. Freshman,
Junelly Marrero (Cantano, PR) continued to set the pace for the offense with 21 assists while classmate,
Sari Daugherty (Chula Vista, Calif.) added a career-high 10 digs to the Bloomfield effort.
Next up, the Bears return home for some Tuesday night CACC action against Nyack College. The Warriors step into the Den as Bloomfield looks to get back on the winning track with a 7:00 pm start time.
