BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bears men's basketball team dropped to 0-3 for the season after an, 83-77 setback against the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). The Firebirds got their first win of the year to push their record to 1-2 after the non-conference contest in The Den. Bloomfield's athletic department celebrated head coach,
Gerald Holmes 300th victory by dubbing the day, 'Home with Holmes'and presented the 17-year veteran a commemorative plaque.
UDC opened the game with an aggressive offensive first half extending to a 12-point advantage (23-35) by halftime. The Bears clawed back to begin the second half a pulled within a point of their visitors, 51-50 with just over twelve minutes to play. The home team could not get over the hump in Wednesday's battle and UDC pulled away down the stretch.
The Bears saw senior,
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, P.A) lead all scorers with 22 points, including 15 in the second half. Redshirt-Freshman,
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) had a career day, pouring in 19 points in his third start for Bloomfield.
Dontay Julius (Linden, NJ) provided a spark off the bench with 13 points while
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) chipped in 12 points to round out the Bears double-digit scorers.
Bloomfield will face their next challenge on the road at Bowie State University. The regional battle on Saturday, November 17thwith a 7:00 pm scheduled tip.
