BOWIE, MD–
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) used his second career double-double to help lift the Bears men's basketball team to their first win of the 2018-2019 season on Saturday evening. Bloomfield secured a, 75-71 decision on the road against regional opponent, Bowie State as the senior forward poured in 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in the win.
The teams played a deadlocked first half and went into the locker rooms tied at 35-35. The visitors shot an efficient, 51.7 percent from the field (15-for-29) while the Bulldogs struggled, shooting just 33.3 percent (14-for-42). Green secured his double-double in the opening half, netting 14 points and snagging 10 boards by the break. The second frame saw the Bears go up by as many as twelve (66-54) with less than six minutes to play in the game. Dontay Julius (Linden, NJ) sank a freethrow that concluded the scoring and lifted the visitors to 1-3 for the year.
Julius finished the evening with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field followed by Matt Lageunesse (Union, NJ) who recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 boards.
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) joined the Bears top scorers for the non-conference game, netting 10 points.
Bloomfield enjoys some time off for the holiday season before returning for action with another highly anticipated regional match up on Wednesday, November 28
th. The Spartans from Saint Thomas Aquinas (STAC) roll out the welcome mat for a scheduled 7:00 pm tip-off as they look for some redemption of a, 91-78 upset loss to the Bears in last season's NCAA Tournament East Region opening round.
