BLOOMFIELD, NJ –The court was full of cheers after the Bloomfield College's Women's Basketball team won their first game in the season against the Lincoln University Lions. The Bears finished the game on top, 74-64. The teams wore gold laces for the game in support of
Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, which was established in 2011 as a response to athletic teams in New Jersey that wanted to show their commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer.
The first period had ended in a tie, 11-11 but the Bears (1-5) didn't let up. Freshman forward
Jaylah Bennett (Newark, NJ) in particular played hard, ending the game with 19 points going on 7-of-12 from the field including a blistering 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Freshman guard,
Caitlin Townes (Newark, NJ) wasn't too far behind, putting up a career-high 18 points during the non-conference victory. The Lions (2-5) managed to get close (59-63) at the 3:55 minute mark during the 4
thperiod, but the home team took control and dominated,
Next up, Bloomfield will take the short trip down the road to Caldwell, NJ and face the Cougars, Saturday December 8
th. The battle between the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rivals will be broadcast live through a variety of social media and online outlets as part of the Division II Showcase package. The women's game will begin at approximately 1:00 pm.
