CALDWELL, N.J. – The Bloomfield College women's basketball was featured in a NCAA D2 Showcase game Saturday afternoon and fell on the road to Caldwell University, 67-51. The Bears dropped to 1-6 overall as they also opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, falling to 0-1 after the contest. The Cougars improved to 2-5 overall and a perfect, 2-0 in league action.
The home team seized command early, posting an 18-11 advantage after the 1
stquarter of play. The Cougars found a groove in the second stanza and pushed their lead to, 32-24 as the visitor's offense struggled heading into the halftime break. The Bears made a surge in the 3
rdquarter and drew within one (40-39) on a
Bobbi Floyd (Las Vegas, NV) layup. Caldwell calmly sank three shots from beyond the arc to close out the frame and never looked back.
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) notched a double-double in the setback, netting 16 points and snagging 13 rebounds. Senior classmate,
Ilysia Lewis (Baltimore, MD) finished the day with 9 points to go along with 8 rebounds while Floyd registered 7 points and 5 boards.
The Bears take a week off before returning to action next Saturday, December 15
th. The Yellow Jackets of AIC will host the Bears in non-conference action set for 1:30 pm on Day 1 of their Holiday Tournament. Day 2 action will pit Bloomfield against The College of St. Rose at 3:30 pm.
