LAKELAND, FLA.– On Day 2 of the Mocs Christmas Classic, Bloomfield College men's basketball saw two players post double-doubles but the Bears fell just short, dropping a 69-58 decision to Florida Southern College. Ranked 10th in the nation, the tournament hosts improved their overall record to 9-1 after the contest while the visiting Bears slid to 4-6 after the setback.
Bloomfield turned the ball over 16 times for the game and in the opening half, the Mocs used that to their advantage, converting 13 points off turnovers to claim a, 41-32 lead heading into the half. The visitors held an edge on points in-the paint, 20-16 but Florida Southern was off to the races in the first half with a 21-4 margin on fast-break points.
The Bears made a push coming out of the locker room when a bucket from
Rich Chapman (Newark, NJ) pulled the team within two (43-41) with 15:35 on the clock but the Mocs responded with a 13-4 spurt that put them back in command and eventually earned them the non-conference win.
Leading the team in scoring,
Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) posted his third double-double of the year as he finished the game with 16 points alongside 13 rebounds.
Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) had a solid day at the office as he netting 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds and continued to average a double-double for the season. Chapman ended the day with 15 points while
Dontay Julius (Linden, NJ) rounded out the Bloomfield top point-getters with 10 points.
The Bears return home to close out 2018 and non-conference play when they host the University of New Haven on December 30
th. The East regional battle with the Chargers is set for a 2:00 pm tip-off in The Den.
