PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team pulled out a thrilling, 86-85 overtime win over Jefferson Saturday afternoon on Herb Magee Court. The fiery battled featured the two top teams of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North and South divisions.
Bloomfield saw their 3
rd All-Time leading scorer in the NCAA D2 era,
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) hit a game-tying three-pointer at the end of the 4
th quarter to force overtime and help move the regionally ranked visitors to 15-1 in CACC action and 20-4 overall. Heartbreak for the Rams as they fell to 12-4 in conference play and 17-10 overall after Hall of Fame Head Coach, Herb Magee elected to foul at the end of OT to put the home team's fate in their own hands but came up short on the last-second shot attempt.
The Bears rising star,
Safee Abdus-Sabur (West Orange, NJ) came up clutch, tying his second-best performance since being inserted into the starting line-up with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor which included, 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Abdus-Sabur's shining moment came with sixteen seconds remaining in overtime when the junior guard calmly sank his first two free throw attempts of the day to ice the game.
Davidson finished the afternoon with 19 points, going 3-of-8 from long range and 2-of-3 from the line. Bloomfield attempted only 7 free throws for the game and failed to reach the line in the entire 1
st half but ironically the game came down to Abdus-Sabur final attempts to cement the victory. Philly native,
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pa) had a 15-point performance in his homecoming as his friends and family came out to support and watched him dazzle with 8 assists on the day. Sophomore,
Matt Lajeunesse (Union, NJ) rounded out the Bears top scorers with a perfect performance from the floor, going 5-of-5 for 10 points and added 5 rebounds.
The Bears now take a break from league play to finish up their non-conference schedule with a Tuesday meeting against the University of New Haven. Bloomfield hits the road for a 7:00 pm battle with the Chargers before returning home for Saturday's 'Senior Day' against Georgian Court University.
