BLOOMFIELD, NJ –
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) put on his greatest offensive output in a Bloomfield College uniform Saturday afternoon during his final regular-season game at The Den and led his team to an, 84-65 victory over Georgian Court University. The Bears celebrated Senior Day and the four-year veteran delivered a 40-point performance that included the NCAA Div II's third highest made free throws this year (19) and also locked up the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular-season crown.
Prior to the game, Bloomfield honored five of their program's six seniors, which included their season-leading scorer, Davidson.
Jervon Gregory (Ewing, NJ),
Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain)
Juan Brown (Annapolis, MD) and the 'Rock'
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ) were all invited to The Den floor with their families in a pregame celebration led by head coach,
Gerald Holmes. The group represented the first to play exclusively as Bears since the department changed the mascot in 2014 and the fans gave the seniors a proper send off with a thunderous round of applause.
Once the festivities were done and the ball was tipped, Davidson quickly went to work crafting his career-day on Senior Day masterpiece. The Bloomfield forward dropped 18 points in the first half and was the only scorer to reach double-figures before halftime. The CACC's 4
th leading scorer put up a relentless attack on the basket and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line as the Lions defense couldn't contain him. Bloomfield (21-5, 16-1 CACC) went into the locker room with a 40-33 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Davidson put on a show for the fans at the Den, dropping 22 points on a modest 4-of-10 shooting from the floor but made a living at the line as the senior cashed in on 11-of-12 attempts to etch his name in the NCAA Div II national ranks for free throws made this year. Georgian Court (5-20, 5-12 CACC) put up their best fight in the first five minutes of the final period and tied the game at 44-44 but Davidson and the Bears were having none of it on Senior Day and quickly closed the door on the visitors hopes with a 27-5 run that put the contest out of reach.
Coach Holmes treated the fans to an all-senior starting line-up and complimenting Davidson's career-high day, Kelly finished the afternoon with 12 points and 6 rebounds while Diez chipped in 8 boards and 5 points. Brown recorded four points, three boards and two assists and Gregory snagged two boards and dished out two assists.
Bloomfield now looks at closing out the season in style, with just two more CACC road contests on the schedule before post-season play kicks off on February 27th. The Bears won't have far to travel, as they square off with Felician University on Wednesday at 7:30 pm and then close out the regular season on Saturday against Caldwell University at 3:00 pm.
